Dear friends,

2006 marks the tenth anniversary of our daughter, Noelle’s, death from Muscular Dystrophy.  I have decided to mark this anniversary by participating in the firefighter’s Trans-NH Bike Ride for the Muscular Dystrophy Association.  The firefighters’ challenge consists of a two-hundred and fifty mile bicycle ride from the Canadian border to Portsmouth, NH over three days.  2006 will be the 19th year of this ride founded by several of Salem, NH’s firefighters, whom Noelle called “her boyfriends”.  Our firefighter friends dedicated this ride in Noelle’s honor a couple of times over the years when Noelle was alive and every year she wanted to be there at the end when her boyfriends came home.  Muscular Dystrophy took Noelle from us in 1996 and we’ve seen too many others taken from us in the years since.  I want to do something more to aid MDA in their research and support NH patients living with and fighting Muscular Dystrophy.

250 miles may not sound like that big of a deal to many but like many of us I’ve been very out of shape for most of my life and I haven’t been on a bicycle since high school!  So this past January, 2005, when I decided I’m going to do this I began training sessions to lose weight and increase my fitness.  I’m also working with a local bicycle shop to build a custom bike that will carry my still sizable frame.  As you can see I’m fully invested in making this a reality but it’s going to take a lot of work and dedication to be successful.  I’m willing and driven to do my part but I need the help of everyone I know and those whom I don’t know to raise the funds needed to make this ride a resounding success for me and the firefighters and support personnel who organize this event year after year to help families in NH who are living each day with Muscular Dystrophy.
